Our "Celebrate the Gifts of the Forest - A Wild Mushroom Retreat for Health and Wellness” is on September 24-26, 2021. And it is right around the corner! 🍄

At this time of year, the leaves begin to turn from green to golden, and the berries ripen on the branches in purples and scarlet. It is also the time of the autumnal equinox, when day and night are nearly equal, associated with harvest and the season for wild mushrooms. This weekend retreat invites us to celebrate this autumn magic as we forage for the gifts of the forest at Soyuzivka Heritage Center.

Sophie Szpak passed away peacefully at the age of

Sophie Szpak passed away peacefully at the age of 98 on June 23, 2021 surrounded by her loving and devoted family in Greenwich, Connecticut. Born in Ukraine on March 6, 1923, she lived her life with enthusiasm and happiness, filling it with laughter, music and dancing with family and a multitude of friends. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 52 years, Dmytro Szpak. She is one of the last of the “Greatest Generation” and displayed the strength that all Ukrainian women possess. She was very proud to be a Ukrainian American! She especially
loved her work at Soyuzivka in Kerhonkson, New York managing hospitality in the dining room, weddings, and special events, becoming a legend with all the workers and guests. And the Sunflowers were her signature touch that she loved and planted throughout the estate.

We mourn the loss of our beloved mother and will miss her dearly but will always celebrate with gratitude her long and remarkable life. Her memory will never be forgotten by her friends and all the people whose lives she touched.
She is survived by her loving daughters Maria and her husband Trey Kelsey of Greenwich, Connecticut and Barbara and her husband Charles Jeffrey of London, England.
The Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, July 1st at 11 AM at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church, Kerhonkson, New York. Vichnaya Pamyat. May she rest in Eternal Peace!
