Вічная пам’ять Пані Szpak

June 25, 2021

Sophie Szpak passed away peacefully at the age of 98 on June 23, 2021 surrounded by her loving and devoted family in Greenwich, Connecticut.

Born in Ukraine on March 6, 1923, she lived her life with enthusiasm and happiness,  filling it with laughter, music and dancing with family and a multitude of friends.

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 52 years, Dmytro Szpak.  She is one of the last of the “Greatest Generation” and displayed the strength that all Ukrainian women possess.  She was very proud to be a Ukrainian American!  She especially loved her work at Soyuzivka in Kerhonkson, New York managing hospitality in the dining room, weddings, and special events, becoming a legend with all the workers and guests.  And the Sunflowers were her signature touch that she loved and planted throughout the estate.

We mourn the loss of our beloved mother and will miss her dearly but will always celebrate with gratitude her long and remarkable life.  Her memory will never be forgotten by her friends and all the people whose lives she touched.

She is survived by her loving daughters Maria and her husband Trey Kelsey of Greenwich, Connecticut and Barbara and her husband Charles Jeffrey of London, England.

The Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, July 1st at 11 AM at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church, Kerhonkson, New York.

                                                    Vichnaya Pamyat

May she rest in Eternal Peace!

2021 Fundraising

We hope that you and your loved ones are keeping safe and healthy. The pandemic has impacted all of our lives in meaningful ways, and we wanted you to know that it has also affected Soyuzivka.

Soyuzivka is an iconic location that has, for generations, allowed Ukrainians everywhere to come together and celebrate Ukrainian history and culture. Since March 2020, however, Soyuzivka has been left without its usual sources of income from its camps, festivals and other in-person events. At the same time, the expense of running Soyuzivka has continued. The financial impact of the pandemic has been considerable.

In order to raise funds for the continued operation of Soyuzivka, we are kicking off our most ambitious fundraising plan yet, and we need your support! We invite you to participate in our fundraiser to “Rekindle the Magic of Soyuzivka.” Please join us with a financial contribution to ensure Soyuzivka is able to provide the same Ukrainian cultural events and community for generations to come. Any donation is tax-deductible and will help make a substantial impact.

Thank you in advance for your continued support of and contribution to our beloved Soyuzivka, which means so much to us.
