About Us

We are a year-round Heritage Center that emphasizes Ukrainian cultural awareness through our planned events, authentic cuisine, and attentive customer service. We welcome everyone into our home to experience Ukrainian arts from the past, present, and future.

History

In 1952, the Ukrainian National Association purchased Soyuzivka to serve as a cultural center for its community, offering language workshops, heritage studies, concerts, art exhibits, and children’s camps. The property, modeled after Carpathian mountain architecture, featured works by the renowned sculptor and woodcarver Mykhailo Chereshnovsky.

Over the years, Soyuzivka hosted artists like Jacques Hnizdovsky and Edvard “Eko” Kozak, as well as important Ukrainian dignitaries, including Cardinal Josyf Slipyj and former Ukrainian Presidents Leonid Kravchuk and Viktor Yushchenko. It also became a venue for political dissidents, like Valentyn Moroz and Taras Chornovil, and hosted Hollywood movie stars like Jack Palance and Mike Mazurki.

Soyuzivka has long supported Ukrainian language education, offering courses for teachers and young people. In 2015, it was transferred to the Ukrainian National Foundation (UNF), a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and expanding Soyuzivka’s cultural mission.

Back in the 1960's, Soyuzivka hosted Hollywood movie stars like Jack Palance and Mike Mazurki, who were of Ukrainian descent.
Soyuzivka thrived under the leadership of Walter Kwas, a great supporter of the arts, who dedicated his entire life to bettering the center.
